'Parliament is hanging, no party can get a majority of more than 50 percent' - EC

PUTRAJAYA: The Election Commission (EC) announced in a press conference that no party has yet obtained a majority of more than 50% of the 219 seats up for election in the 15th General Election (GE15).


As of 4.30 this morning, according to EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh, Pakatan Harapan (PH) had won 82 seats, followed by Perikatan Nasional (PN), 73, Barisan Nasional (BN), 30, Gabungan Sarawak Party (GPS), 22, Parti Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), six, Parti Warisan (three), Bebas (two), and Parti Bangsa Malaysia (one).



"Three parts of the GE could not be announced, namely Padang Serai Parliament due to the deaths of candidates, Kota Marudu, and Baram Parliament due to weather problems," he said at a press conference on the development of GE15 results here this morning.


Additionally, Abdul Ghani reported that 73.8 percent of voters turned out for the GE-15 national election.


He added that out of the 41 seats in Pahang's State Legislative Assembly (DUN) that are up for election, PN currently holds 17 of them, followed by BN (16) and PH (8), with the Tioman state assembly seat being left vacant due to the death of a candidate.


"No party obtained 50 percent of the total number of contested seats with a turnout of 70.48 percent," he said.


Abdul Ghani claimed that no party won a majority of more than 50% in the Perak state assembly, which had 59 seats up for election.


"PN won 26 seats, PH had 24 seats, and BN had nine." "The turnout was 66.71 percent," he said.
