The Sultan of Johor declared as the future 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong

Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, was also chosen at the meeting to serve as the Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong for the same duration.


The 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia was proclaimed to be Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar of Johor, with effect from January 31, 2024, and serving for a five-year term. 


His Majesty's selection was made at the 263rd (Special) Meeting of the Council of Kings, which took place in the National Palace on Friday and was presided over by the Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Mahmud Al-Muktafi Billah Shah, according to Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad, the Keeper of the Rulers' Seal.


Syed Danial states that the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, was also chosen at the meeting to serve as the Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong for the same duration.


"The meeting was attended by all the kings except His Majesty the King of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail, and His Majesty the Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V," he said in an official statement here on Friday.


After Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah steps down as Yang di-Pertuan Agong 16th on January 30, 2024, Sultan Ibrahim was chosen to take his place. - Bernama (via Astro Awani)
